Goal 13: Climate Action

Urgent climate action is needed to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Climate change will impact every country, whether it be through extreme weather events or rising sea levels.

At Hegelmann’s, we’re conscious of the greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumed, and waste our transportation activities generate. The first step was to measure these three key areas, and now we’re managing them to reduce our environmental impact.

We are committed to playing our part in combatting climate change and its impact on the world. Whether through our transportation network or internally with our employees, we have a platform to educate and create positive change.

We will reduce our carbon footprint by 25% by 2030.

We will have our carbon targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative by 2025.

We will achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across all operations by 2045.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

As part of our commitments to decarbonisation, we’re extending our partnership with Emitwise to measure, manage and reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This helps us identify emissions hotspots and prioritise emission reduction initiatives within our operations and supply chain. In line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, our emissions are categorised into three scopes:

Scope 1

The emissions we are directly responsible for as they are released from our operations, such as on-site fuel combustion or emissions related to company vehicles.

Scope 2

The emissions we are indirectly responsible for as they are associated with the purchase of electricity, heat or stream from third-party energy providers.

Scope 3

The emissions we are indirectly responsible for as they arise from every activity in our value chain, such as the purchase of goods and services.

Through our partnership with Emitwise, we have leveraged software solutions to improve our data collection and emissions calculation processes.

To increase the accuracy of our emissions assessment, we’ve been engaging our value chain to collect more granular data from our suppliers.

Our emission figures are expressed as tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). This data helps us prioritise our emission reduction initiative to drive the most impact.
