Taking care of our employees

In 2023, we hired 892 new employees, meaning that 19% of our workforce were new hires. This brings our total number of employees to 4700.

The satisfaction of our employees is of the utmost importance to Hegelmann. As part of our efforts to improve working conditions, we conducted an annual employee satisfaction survey.

Some of the statistics from the 2023 survey include:

  • 77.19% agree or strongly agree that their team works well together and supports one another
  • 76.61% agree or strongly agree that their job responsibilities are clear and manageable
  • 68.42% agree or strongly agree that their job utilises their skills effectively
  • 60.23% agree or strongly agree that their work is engaging and fulfilling

These numbers suggest that Hegelmann is providing jobs that match well with our employees’ skills and that our teams are collaborative and enjoy working together.

While the data is overwhelmingly positive, we strive to improve these results and address areas of improvement. Any constructive feedback shared by our employees is seriously considered and will guide the improvement of the working conditions at Hegelmann.

Providing training opportunities to our colleagues

As part of our ambition to upskill our employees and provide them with opportunities for growth within the business, Hegelmann has implemented a Learning and Development program.

Our courses cover social responsibility topics, such as Awareness of the Problem of Child Labour, Modern Slavery, and Human Trafficking, and environmental sustainability topics, such as Sustainable Procurement and Sustainable Development.

We collected employee feedback to see how we could improve their training. On average, our courses received a score of 8.8/10 for the quality of the content, and 97% of participants recommended the courses they had completed.

3,255 courses were completed in 2023, and we were glad to see that 84% of participants believed they were able to put the newly acquired knowledge into practice.

In total, our employees undertook 582.4 hours of training, resulting in 4 hours of training on average per employee.

Moving forward, we will develop new courses on energy efficiency, climate change, waste management, and diversity and inclusion.

Dual studies programme in transportation and logistics

Hegelmann is committed to providing secure employment opportunities to the next generation. Through our dual studies programme, we are investing in developing future talent.

This programme allows students to gain practical work experience while they pursue their academic studies. Some key features of this program include:

Valuable learnings: Our programme combines theoretical classroom-based learning with practical, hands-on experience in real-world environments. This allows our students to apply their theoretical knowledge in the workplace, further enhancing their skills development.

Fair pay: Students participating in the programme are compensated for their work, providing financial support while they gain valuable industry experience.

Mentorship and career development: Students are paired with experienced mentors who guide and support them as they navigate a combined academic and professional path.

In 2023, 19 students enrolled in our dual studies programme. Of those, 8 students successfully graduated from the programme and decided to remain with Hegelmann.

The Hegelmann Library

We opened a shared library in our Bruchsal office in Germany. Through this project, we are developing and supporting our employees’ interest in learning and introducing a sustainable way to read by sharing books rather than buying new ones. Hegelmann employees can bring their favourite books and share them with their colleagues.
