Providing training opportunities to our colleagues

As part of our ambition to upskill our employees and provide them with opportunities for growth within the business, Hegelmann has implemented a Learning and Development program.

Our courses cover social responsibility topics, such as Awareness of the Problem of Child Labour, Modern Slavery, and Human Trafficking, and environmental sustainability topics, such as Sustainable Procurement and Sustainable Development.

We collected employee feedback to see how we could improve their training. On average, our courses received a score of 8.8/10 for the quality of the content, and 97% of participants recommended the courses they had completed.

3,255 courses were completed in 2023, and we were glad to see that 84% of participants believed they were able to put the newly acquired knowledge into practice.

In total, our employees undertook 582.4 hours of training, resulting in 4 hours of training on average per employee.

Moving forward, we will develop new courses on energy efficiency, climate change, waste management, and diversity and inclusion.

Dual studies programme in transportation and logistics

Hegelmann is committed to providing secure employment opportunities to the next generation. Through our dual studies programme, we are investing in developing future talent.

This programme allows students to gain practical work experience while they pursue their academic studies. Some key features of this program include:

Valuable learnings: Our programme combines theoretical classroom-based learning with practical, hands-on experience in real-world environments. This allows our students to apply their theoretical knowledge in the workplace, further enhancing their skills development.

Fair pay: Students participating in the programme are compensated for their work, providing financial support while they gain valuable industry experience.

Mentorship and career development: Students are paired with experienced mentors who guide and support them as they navigate a combined academic and professional path.

In 2023, 19 students enrolled in our dual studies programme. Of those, 8 students successfully graduated from the programme and decided to remain with Hegelmann.

The Hegelmann Library

We opened a shared library in our Bruchsal office in Germany. Through this project, we are developing and supporting our employees’ interest in learning and introducing a sustainable way to read by sharing books rather than buying new ones. Hegelmann employees can bring their favourite books and share them with their colleagues.

Mental health

At Hegelmann, we recognise the importance of prioritising the mental health of our employees. That is why we are introducing the following measures with the well-being of our employees in mind:

Employee assistance program: We offer confidential counselling and support services to our employees facing personal or work-related challenges.

Mental health awareness workshops: We conduct regular workshops and training sessions to raise awareness and reduce stigma about mental health challenges. In addition to these sessions, we provide our employees with tools, such as stress management and resilience-building educational materials.

Flexible working arrangements: We strive to promote a healthy work-life balance by offering remote work options and flexible scheduling. This allows our employees to accommodate work with their personal needs and reduce work-related stress.

Hegelmann Driver Training Program

In 2023, Hegelmann extended its commitment to training and developing its drivers’ skills. Hegelmann trains its drivers on 15 topics relevant to safety and quality through on-site training and online courses.

The courses cover topics such as crossing borders, cargo safety equipment and pallet handling. By providing these courses, we’re ensuring road safety within our operations and that our drivers meet all of the requirements to align with industry regulations.

We are continuing to develop new courses. The needs of our drivers and changes in industry regulations inform the selection of these topics. We also analyse the results of drivers’ tests to reinforce any knowledge gaps.

International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the amazing and talented women who, through their wonderful minds and beautiful hearts, bring so much to Hegelmann.

At Hegelmann, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and diverse workplace. We are proud to share that 46% of our employees in office are women.

Blood donation

The Hegelmann Team in Poland participated in a walk and run organised by Ultrakrew to raise awareness about the importance of blood donations.

The objective was also to promote the importance of personal health and physical activity. The event involved running and walking from Poland’s western to eastern piers.
